Za'atar Flatbread Chips

These za’atar flatbread chips are easy to make and packed with flavour. It tastes so good and much cheaper when you make them at home. 

Chips or crackers whatever you call it I love them all. It crispy, light and salty…this one of my guilty food.

Za'atar Flatbread Chips

Indonesian loves crackers- we eat it with rice, noodles or as a snack- but pita chip is not a common snack in here. It’s hard to find pita chips even in a big city like Jakarta and when you can find it the price is pretty expensive.

Za’atar Flatbread Chips

You can make this za’atar chips with pita, naan or any flatbread that you have. If you use ita bread with pocket, cut the pita in half so you have two single layers. Using thinner bread will make the chips crispier and cook faster.

Ingredients

Za’atar Flatbread Chips

  • 2 sheets flatbread
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder
  • 2 tablespoon za’atar

Yogurt-tahini dipping sauce

  • 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup tahini sauce
  • small sprigs of mint leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt, divided

Cooking direction

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Combine za’atar, chilli powder and olive oil in a bowl, mix well to form a paste. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Brush about 1 tablespoon oil over parchment paper.
  • Place the flatbreads on a working surface. Spread za’atar mixture over flatbreads with the brush or back of the spoon. With a sharp knife or kitchen shears, cut the flatbread into triangles.
  • Place them in a single layer on a sheet pan and bake for 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven, carefully turn the chips over and bake for another 5 minutes, until crisp.
  • Place ingredients for dipping sauce in a medium bowl, stir to combine. Serve with za’atar flatbread chips.
